Christian had a new paint job!
2013 racing season
Finally back in action on April 19, 2013.
This was opening night at the brand new Community Kart Club located inside New Smyrna Speedway. This was Steven and Christians first race away from Hurricane Speedway, so they had some learning to do on this tight oval.
Christian ran in Junior I, and Steven was in Junior II. Two separate classes, but on this night they were combined in the same race.
This was also Christian's first night in a flat kart. I had bought the #24 and just got it together the night before the race.
All things considered, they had a wild night! I don't even know where they finished!
Hurricane Speedway, April 20
This was our first back-to-back race night weekend. The boys held up great and had a good ole' time.
Christian won a heat, but ended up second in the feature. Steven improved every time he went on the track.
After chasing another kid all night, Steven blew around him in the feature and won it going away. #16 in a row at Hurricane!
Hurricane Speedway, May 18

A bit of bad news: Steven's undefeated win streak of 16 in a row at Hurricane Speedway came to an end at last.
Even though we arrived very late, the first heat was on the track, we still had time to unload QUICKLY enough for Steven to start the second heat. He rolled out there cold and won it. He got the next one too, but the feature was a little different.
Steven drove a good, hard race. He ran down the leader, worked him over for quite a while, and even rattled his cage a few times. But tonight the competition never put a wheel wrong, so the two year win streak ends at 16. What a start to a racing life!
Christian had a good time, but his night was less eventful. He ended up second.
Community Kart Club, "New Smyrna", July 5
Our second trip to New Smyrna was more productive (and less destructive) than the first. Both boys improved every time they went out!
Christian had a chance to win, but ended up spinning toward the end. Steven ran hard all night. He finished 3'rd in a pack of hard charging kids.

8-3-13 Hurricane Speedway
Steven is back to his winning ways. Today he won both heats and the feature. Christian improved all day and finished second in his class.
8-10-13 Martin County Kartway, Hobe Sound, FL
Steven made his first start on a pavement track....and loved it! Hobe Sound is a 1/6 mile paved oval. The speeds are much higher than the dirt tracks where he has been racing, but Steven liked it and adapted quickly.
There were only 3 kids in his class, and Steven finished second, but he had lots of seat time, and there was no destruction.
8-24-13 Hurricane Speedway
We almost completed a good day of racing, but the rain started to fall as Steven was lined up to go out and run the feature. So close!
The make-up race was held two weeks later, and he finished second.
9-7-13 Hurricane Speedway
A win! Steven won the feature today. His friend Matthew drove our team kart, #33 today in JR1. I don't have any pictures however....
9-21-13 Hurricane Speedway
We had a great day. Not only did Steven get faster as the day went on, but he set his fastest times ever (14.20 seconds) on the way to a feature win!
10-5-13 Hurricane Speedway
We had another good day! Christian was back behind the wheel, and going better than ever. He finished 4'th in a hotly contest money race. Steven laid down his best lap time ever: 14.0, and won his 20'th feature race! Sorry, I have no photos of this one.
10-19-13 Hurricane Speedway
I went out of town to race today, but Steven wants to win the points at Hurricane, so he stayed and raced without me for the first time. Many thanks to Jimmy Mattues and his family for taking Steven along!
Steven won his 6'th of the year.
11-2-13 Hurricane Speedway
Steven had a very easy win today. There was only one other kart in his class.
11-16-13 Hurricane Speedway
Steven had another easy win. Christian finished third in a field of four karts, but they had a good race and he really enjoyed it!
12-7-13 Hurricane Speedway
It was the final night of the year at Hurricane, and Steven won the Junior 2 class championship! He entered 11 races and won 9 of them. Some were easy wins, some were very tough, but either way he hung in there and always tried. Best of all, he improved all year and has turned into an excellent young driver.
Tonight was a tough one: I had my racecar in the trailer too, so as soon as Steven's race was complete, the boys and I ran over to Orlando Speedworld.
The track picnic is coming up on January 11, 2014.
